Honest Scrap & Butterfly Awards

The cutest little Ashley on the blogging block over at Ashley's Adventures was kind enough to present me with the Honest Scrap Award. Thanks, Ashley! Be sure to go by and meet her, if you haven't already! The rules are:

The DORY AWARD

When I had my daughter, several years ago, I am fully convinced that my brain cells passed through the umbilical cord straight on to her. Especially the ones containing my memory because her memory is almost photographic, and mine is almost non-existent. I can only imagine what would have happened if I had more than one child.

Because I can't remember squat, I've created the Dory Award. (Do you remember Dory from Finding Nemo?)

Unlike most awards passed around in Blogland, this one is not to be passed along TO others (after all, that wouldn't be very nice, would it?)...it is to be TAKEN. If you consider yourself eligible to receive the DORY AWARD, then by all means please take it and display it proudly on your blog! You know best if you deserve it!

A Sweet Mom Award

Lynette from Lynette's L.A.M. passed on this sweet award to me proclaiming to all that I am a great mother, and I am so glad she did!! I couldn't be more honored. Every day, I know that I am blessed beyond measure for being given the chance to be a mom. That's not saying that I don't have a few gray hairs with "Sweet Baby's" name on them, because rest assured, I do! And it's not saying I always do a great job of it, but I wouldn't trade being a mom for ANYTHING in this world!

This is a picture of "Sweet Baby" when she was little. It didn't scan very well, and her hair isn't really reddish, nor does she really even look like this now, but you get the idea. She's my angel!

This award was originally passed on by "Wibeche" from ourdreams-wr and she is located in Norway. How cool is that? We're passing around an international award! Way COOL! I don't read Norwegian, but I've been told that it means:

FRIENDS AWARD

Kristen, over at Something about Nothing and Pam at Antique or Not, gave me this pretty little award, so THANKS, Kristen and Pam! Be sure to visit her, and check out her blog, if you haven't already had the chance to get to know her!

Kristen said the Friends Award is given to blogs that are exceedingly charming. These kind bloggers aim to find and to be friends. They are not interested in self-aggrandizement. (Kristen said to omit that self-aggrandizement part - see below for the reason!).

Neither of us knew what that meant, so she googled it and decided to take that part out because it means, "the act of making oneself more powerful, wealthy, etc., esp. in a ruthless way" because she didn't like the "especially in a ruthless way" part! The hope is that when the ribbons of these prizes are cut, even more friendships are propagated. Please give more attention to these writers.

The award is supposed to be passed onto 8 bloggers. And, since I consider all of you my friends, I'm just going to pass this along to those of you who are kind enough to still stop by and visit on a regular basis, even when my blog posts tend to get boring - in my opinion, true friends are always loyal. I think I partied too much in college, because I didn't learn "big words" like these! I had to get my special translator, the Duke grad, to tell me what it meant! So, Kathy over at Emptynester and Kitty Scraps @ A Bit of Fluff, Quite Messy Really... was kind enough to bestow this award on me. Lemonade Award

This week's blog posts are devoted to catching up on all I didn't have time to do in December a/k/a "taking care of business". That being said, I received the Lemonade Award, thanks to Kristen at Something about Nothing (sorry it took so long to post) and Donna @ Our Adventures with Tassie! The purpose of this award is to give it to someone who is showing gratitude or a good attitude ("if life hands you lemons, make lemonade") within their life or blog.

The rules:

These rules are the easiest EVER, but narrowing it down to 10 is the hard part because I follow over 180 blogs, and I wouldn't be following them if they didn't demonstrate great attitude or gratitude qualities!

Mooresville, we have a problem....

one of our newest of residents has gone stark raving nuts about Christmas. How do we control her? It looks like the Christmas train slammed into her house! I believe she needs an intervention! Quick, let's get over there!!!

There's Christmas EveRyWheRe! And I do mean EVERYWHERE!

Oh, and look! She even has a Santa tree! Who would have thought?
Let's look at some of the Mark Robert's fairies....

Oh, I think the pink ones benefit breast cancer research!

I've got a great idea....next year when she decorates the tree, maybe she can try finding the Santas and fairies BEFORE the ornaments go on the tree!

I think that's a GREAT IDEA!

and there's a Make-a-Wish fairy! We'd even sacrifice our color scheme to help sick children, wouldn't we?

Hey, I remember that Santa head with the white dreadlocks...perhaps he should just shave! Wonder what Santa would look like with no beard?

And the elves! I've heard she catches grief from her family because that "BELIEVE" sign interferes with the remote signal when changing channels!


Poor Tar! I don't think that there's help for her kind of problem!

Can you believe we still haven't even seen her big tree or her daughter's pink and purple trees!?

How many trees does this crazy chick have?

Hmmmmm.....stay tuned to find out!

I see why she hasn't been in Blogland much lately. But, I do think Melissa over at Melissa's Heart and Home was right....she does qualify for the Christmas Spirit AWARD!

Thanks, Melissa! In order to qualify, I'm suppose to:

1) Be a true Christmas lover.

2) The person to whom you give the award must also be in love with Christmas.

3) Link back to the person who gave you the award.

4) List 5 things that you love about Christmas. If you can't limit it to 5 things, then keep going until you run out of space!

5) Pass the award along to as many people as you like. That can be 1 or 50, it's up to you! But, you must pass it on to at least one person in order to keep the Christmas cheer going! Let your recipients know that you have tagged them by leaving them a comment.

Some Things I Love about Christmas:

1) My daughter's face on Christmas morning when she sees her presents, and her excitement/anticipation on Christmas Eve.

2) This year, it's the fact that in addition to a few (100) :O) other things, my daughter put on her Christmas list, a nearby house she and I been watching and are in love with! She gave Santa directions to it and asked him to give her a loan to buy it! Hope he figures out a way to grant that wish, in this economy! Of course, we told her she could have asked for a grant!!!

3) Shopping for a "few" new decorations each year.

4) I love wrapping paper, bags & ribbon...if I live to be 100, I'd never use my supply up - and that's before going to more Christmas sales! (still trying to stimulate the economy :O)

5) Christmas music (although after 2 months, I am beginning to tire of it!)

6) The lights (white) - especially outside!

7) The fact that we GET TO CELEBRATE CHRISTMAS, and the reason for the season!

and this is extra (again, I'm not one that stays "in the box"), but I'm going to list a few things I DON'T LOVE QUITE SO MUCH ABOUT CHRISTMAS (do I lose the Christmas Spirit AWARD if I do that?) I'll take the risk...

1) people that steal "my" parking space when my signal is ON! Can I get a "Hello!?"

2) children that change their list to Santa 1 week before Christmas!

3) being awakened at 3 a.m. after going to bed at 1:30 a.m. on Christmas Eve! Unless Santa brings that house up at #2 - pleeeeeeez keep your happy self in bed until 7-ish!)

4) shopping in crowds - my ugly side comes out

5) alot to do - and not alot of days to do it in!

6) cleaning up & putting away gifts after opening all of the presents (Probably why I'm not a big fan of January!)

7) un-decorating (new word?) Maybe that will be something to look forward to in January!

Autumn Friends Award

Values/Not So Much

Bo over at http://blinksnwinksfrombrown-eyes.blogspot.com/ gave me this pretty little award, by way of Lisa at http://frenchkilt.blogspot.com/, and has asked me to post the 6 Things I Value & the 6 Things I Don't Value.

Then, I'm going to ask a few bloggers to do the same. Here's the rules: Mention the blog that gave you the reward and comment on their blog to let them know that you have posted their award. You also have to list 6 things you VALUE and 6 things you Don't VALUE. Lastly, you have to pass the award onto 6 other friends! So here it goes...

The 6 Things I Value Most are:

1) My faith in God

I think that without this, we don't have much of a moral compass; therefore, fewer values. Several years ago today, I was lying in the hospital in my 40+ hour of labor. Because I sat up to put my contacts in (vanity issues....I wanted to look good in those after-birth photos with the new baby), my baby's blood pressure dropped. I was rushed into the OR for an emergency c-section....terrified, because I just knew I wouldn't be in the 20% of the population that had one of those, so I never read-up on it. I had had an epidural because she was facing the wrong way, and I had back labor. The doctor highlighted where she was going to cut, and I could feel it, so they gave me a spinal block too. I began to feel like my lungs were 100 pound boulders. I couldn't speak because I was dehydrated from not having liquids for 2 days. I thought I was going to die and never be able to raise my child. Apparently, my blood pressure shot up, and the last thing I remember was them saying it was a girl. They "knocked me out", and I woke up in about 3 hours. While I was pregnant, I prayed for three things....1) a healthy child 2) for her to have blonde hair & 3) long eyelashes like her daddy. Guess what, I got all three of my prayers answered....so I know prayer works. So, if you're down, have faith and say a little prayer.

2) Family

I am blessed with a child that loves me to death...even when I don't deserve it. The top 3 songs on my playlist today are in honor of her. The 1st song makes me kind of sad because I am painfully aware that I only have her for a little while. The 2nd song is my wish for her. The 3rd is a song she loves to dance with her daddy to as it plays.

I am blessed with a loving husband. He has been my best friend for almost half my life. He puts up with my moods, which at times can widely vary. But most of all, he loves me and is very good to me, and is faithful to me...I can't say enough about that these days!

My parents. As I age and watch them age, I am painfully aware that I don't have a lot longer with them. Over the last 5 years, we have lost my husband's grandmother, father, and my great aunt. The holidays change with each death, so while they're my favorite time of year....it's always bittersweet. You realize even more how precious life is, and we're not guaranteed another day.

3) Friends

I'm currently assisting with the planning of my 25th class reunion. Looking back, I've had some of my friends since 1st grade. Others I picked up in high school, and along the way, but there will hopefully always be those faithful few true friends.

4) Health

As I get older, I see that things on my body aren't quite like they use to be (an understatement!). I've got a dear friend with a brain tumor. Another who lost his battle with lung cancer in his early 40s a few years back....and he didn't smoke. The Tim McGraw song is my tribute to him....So, I value my health.

5) Freedom

I value the right to pretty much do what I want. I'm thankful for the material things we are able to have because of our freedom...such as a house, car, food. I'm thankful for running water and an inside toilet. I'm thankful that I can buy my clothes and not have to sew them. I am thankful that I can stay in a hotel, and no longer have to camp. :O)

6) A Good Education

My husband and I grew up poor. We both started working before we were 15 years old to save money for college, and helped pay our way through college. We have worked for what we have gotten. I can see how difficult life is without an education, so I realize it's value. However, I also appreciate the value of perseverance!


Things I Don't Value:


1) Laziness I don't believe in a "free ride". I remember our family living on $5 a week. We didn't have a lot of money, but we had love....it doesn't matter how much money you have if you don't have that. I will always try to help someone that needs help, but believe you should always try to earn your keep.

2) Lying I don't care for dishonesty, disception, cheating or broken promises. If you can't tell the truth...then stay silent...and just don't bother.


3) Abuse...whether it be verbal (including bullying), physical or sexual.

I believe abuse of all types damages our soul....our core.

4) Ungratefulness We have so many blessings....just how can we not be thankful?!

5) Envy Because my husband and I DID grow up poor, I have felt that along the way, some of our "friends" have not been truly happy for us as we achieved a better life, whether it be career-wise or financially. So, then I wonder if they're truly my friends. But, then I understand because it's like when you have a friend that loses 10 pounds, and you wish you had done so also. It's not that you're not happy for your friend, you just want what they have too...

6) Conflict I like "happy place". I just wish we could all get along and play nice.
