My Shower

I just want to personally thank everyone who has stopped by this week. Sadly, I haven't had the opportunity to visit with each one of you as I would have liked, and feel I haven't been a good "blogging friend" this week. You know the saying when it rains it pours....well, we got in around 10:30 Sunday night from Myrtle Beach, SC. Monday was catch-up day. My daughter's in a cheerleading competition Saturday, so she's got practice everyday but today, and on Tuesday at 2 a.m., she starts blowing groceries (sorry for the graphic details), and it continues for about 24 hours. To make it worse, I'm in the middle of trying to get my wireless router repaired (it's affecting my blogging, heaven forbid!), and I had painters scheduled to paint 2 days this week...not to mention that I'm trying to get to the awesome Christmas show in Charlotte today to show you guys some of the wonderful goodies there. In addition, I'm trying to decorate for Christmas, while still putting away Halloween decorations...we, unfortunately, pretty much are blowing by Thanksgiving altogether in favor of going back to the beach for Turkey day! So, if you hear someone's head blowing off...well, it most likely will be mine! Do check back over the weekend, as I hope to have some lovely photos to show you from my ventures last weekend in Myrtle Beach.

On with the post:

Have you ever wondered.....my husband always dreads when I say that because he says nothing good can ever come from one of my "did you ever wonder?"

Well, I did wonder, and I wondered what it would be like to "move up" from our starter home. Then I wondered what it would be like to "move up" from our next home. And due to a large company merger that was out of our control, we moved again, and now again.....and so I always found myself wondering if the "grass was greener" in a bigger or nicer house.

Well, let's see.

This is our shower in our 4th home.

When people come to my house, they usually always comment about our shower....but guess, what? It's one of my least favorite things in my entire house. And do you know why?

THIS!

I hate to squeegee!!!! Why do we do this? Who invented this ridiculous gadget? Who should I thank for the idea that every glass needs to be squeegeed...and we have 7 panes of glass?! Not to mention that the tile makes it cold in this north facing room, and it's like a glass house at the fair because you can see your reflection not one, but seven ways!!!!! YIKES!!! Not to mention that big honkin mirror right there beside it. Now maybe 20 years ago it would have been ok, but now....not so much.

Recently, I saw one of my former friends at the NC State Fair. It reminded me of a conversation I had with her several years ago. I was witchin to her about how, after 20+ years, I was tired of shaving my legs, and she agreed that sometimes she tires of it too. She said when she feels that way, she tries to just be thankful that she HAS legs to shave. It kind of puts it in perspective doesn't it?

So, the lesson here is...while I hate that it takes me a few extra minutes to clean all this glass, I AM thankful that I HAVE a shower in which TO SHOWER! There is no better feeling than to be clean...well, maybe a few, but I think Nikki Crumpet can handle that one better than I. (LOL!) But, I'd really just like my old fiberglass shower back. There's nothing special about all that glass & tile! Really!
Lesson Learned: The grass isn't always greener....trust me!
Another one of my friends said she wouldn't bother with squeegeeing (word?) unless company is coming. What do ya'll think...squeegee or just let it go? I think you know what I'm hoping you'll say! :O)

I'm really thankful for my shower too. I'm glad the glass in it is not clear glass however. We dry our shower out every day. Whichever one of us showers last dries it out. I'm glad I don't have to shave every day. I usually jump in the shower while Hubby is shaving. Sometimes I feel kinda mean about him drying the shower out the most, so I wait for him, but not too often. I'm just happy to have a bathroom, not just one, but 2 and a half. There was a time when I was growing up that it was just an out house, and boy did I hate that thing. Spiders loved it, however.
There is so much for me to be thankful for now that it makes my head spin just to think about it. God is so good. I think I appreciate things much more now by having it harder it my early years.
Hugs,
Charlotte

The rule in our house is whoever showers last has to squegee, and I ALWAYS make sure I shower first. Hubby does very little in the way of chores around our house, and I make sure he does that squegee thing!! But, then we only have 2 panes of glass, so that may be why he does it without to much problem!! LOL.

Thank goodness we all have showers. Our builder was going to put a clear glass shower in. Luckily I was able to head that off at the pass! I do not wish to be visible to everyone!!

I hate to shave also. I love winter (DH not so much) because I feel like if I'm wearing pants all the time who will know if the hair on my legs could be braided!
We have the tile shower and I have wished for a glass shower....now I'm rethinking that.

Hi Tare, You are HILARIOUS! I'm laughing my head off.
Quit shaving...good one. Loved this post and I would take your gorgeous bathroom in a heartbeat! You're always a great blogging friend by the way. Have a great day. ~Melissa :)

AMEN. When we remodeled our home, we took out a whirlpool and put in a huge shower, two showerheads, seat in the middle, those stupid sprayers that spray everywhere, the whole nine yards plus the stupid glass wall/door and the tile with the stupid light colored grout. All that silly nonsense is supposed to make you enjoy showering, make it some kind of spiritual experience, but all I do while I'm showering is hurry because I know I'm gonna have to clean it after I'm through! Oh, but I am so very thankful to be able to shower every day.

I went to the Charlotte Christmas show last year and meet a blogging friend who has a booth there! You will have fun....

I have a glass shower too. And I do squeegee every day. I really don't mind. I love that it makes my bathroom look bigger...

p.s. some one told us to put a rain shield (the kind you buy for windshields on cars) on the glass shower after it has been cleaned thoroughly. Then the water is suppose to sheet right off. We haven't tried it yet...

one minute and squeegee is all done, or get a bigger one.

I don't like that shower tho, hmmmmm someone could accidentally come in while I was naked and see me in all my GLORY!

I would say don't do it BUT that would drive me nuts in an all glass shower... we dry ours out everyday... but it is frosted glass... So girlfriend I must say squeegee away... Have a squeaky clean day...

Hey thanks for the shout out!! And I can promise you....leg shaving is LOOOOOW on my to-do list. And about that shower....my solution was this. "hey honey...since I NEVER shower (I'm a bath girl..I like to soak)...and haven't ever used your shower even once in since we built this house...I think it should be YOUR job to clean it" Believe it or not...that actually worked. Not that he cleans it very often...but hey I don't have to go in there with all that slime and yuck and I don't have to feel guilty if it's gross. A WIN WIN for me! And heck...if anyone every saw the glass all crusty and opaque...I'll just tell them that it's frosted glass...it's supposed to look like that!

Hey Tar - I know you're having trouble with your computer and everything and we all loved your shower story, but I hope TK is feeling better real soon and does great in her cheerleading comp!! I meant to come back and say that, but I actually got busy this afternoon at work and am just now getting back to blog hopping. Hugs to her ~

I've had all that glass before and I say no to squeegeeing...too much trouble! That grass isn't always greener on the other side--:)

When we remodeled our house, I told the builder that I wanted a cave instead of a shower! A long, space. That was because I didn't want a shower door to clean. The doorway is on one end of the shower and the shower heads are on the other end. I would NEVER clean all of that glass, and I'd probably lock the door when company was coming! laurie

So funny, I just posted about being thankful tonight. Even for the annoying things. :) I say DON'T squeegee woman!! (sp??) Do you know, when I was pregnant, I only shaved my legs maybe three times? My hair just stopped growing, nuts!! Loved it though!!

I had my glass taken out of my shower for that reason, I now have curtains, but that's a pain too. I think your shower is beautiful, can't say I would want to maintain it though. I dry my shower glass in the RV, but it is little so not a big deal.

Hugs,
Chris

Kristen's post was great - I loved it!! I knew she was working on it - we sit next to each other - but we're in cubes - so we just holler over to each other - but she so nailed it!! My girl is coming home today - we are going to my SIL's tomorrow for her T-day - double yeah!!
Have a good weekend!!

Tardevil, your post as always, is very amusing. I love reading your text. You are good at writing.

Now about that gorgeous shower. I can say if you don't squeegee I believe you will regret it. Glass has a way of getting real tough to clean. I don't like my fiberglass shower, but it is easy to keep clean. I have always had tile and that is a nightmare to clean. I'll just be thankful for what I have and let go at that. sigh.

I will look forward to your Christmas pics to share. I would choose Myrtle beach for Thanksgiving most times. The only thing that would change it would be a family reunion.

Through the years we have moved many times. Always someplace in Fl. Mostly because of my dh's job.
I am glad we will finally stay put for a change.

Don't worry so much about not having time to comment. We always have those times. Your friends will not leave you. smile.

Hugs...Jeanne

Well, I will tell you, I have one glass wall and a big glass door in my shower & it never looks really clean. After one shower, it's got soap scum again & I have never gotten as squeegee to try to keep it clean. It does drive me crazy, but I guess not enough to squeegee everyday. I know my hubby won't do it! I think I'm going to get some of that Clean Shower spray & try to spray it down everyday & see if that helps. We have hard water too & that leaves some mineral deposits that are hard to get off that glass too. I do admire crystal clear glass in showers, but mine sure never looks that good!

So, on that medallion I put up with my chandy, I just painted it with Sophisticated Finishes (craft paint you can get at Michaels). It's called Blackened Bronze & you paint it on with a brush. Works like a charm!

You know I'm thinking about getting the glass, how does it feel to be so transparent? I use a shower curtain now, I think your shower is lovely though.

We have an all tiled walk in shower, no door...I don't have to squeegee it! I do think that someone should (have) invented glass that water just doesn't adhere to! Would save window washing chores...course then that would put Windex and other 'cleaner' companys inluding squeegee co.,out of business...hmmmm...oh well, would be less money out of consumers pockets...

I don't squeegee (don't hate me). I do, however, wipe my entire shower down with a hand towel (every time). It's probably harder than the squeegee but I hate cleaning the shower. It's a pain in my *****. :-)
