First, my daughter...also known in my posts as Sweet Baby, Terrific Kid, Kiddo, Nicka (as in nick of time), Flossie, Flash or Hurry UP and Get Down Here!) had a birthday recently, and I swear she has been doing her best to brainwash me. Every other word out of her mouth is
MIA...MIA this, MIA that....MIA on the brain disease.
You see, MIA is the American Girl Doll of the year for 2008.
I know that because I've heard it at least a thousand times in the last month. And while I admit that she is PRETTY, $90 worth of pretty?
(Can I get a ka-ching, ka-ching, please???) And you know I'm cheap....I mean thrifty! And that doesn't include the outfits!
I've been through the whole Build-a-Bear....where friends are made phase....
(I'm not allowed to reveal what my husband does for a living, but if you knew you'd understand when I say that he's concerned about protecting our identity, so my child appears faceless, but rest assured, she does have a face!)
I'm just now starting to get my sanity back!
I must admit that my wallet is lighter, but my "granddaughter" is a pretty girl! And the smile on T.K.'s face when she saw "her baby" for the 1st time was like any new mom's.....
...PRICELESS!!!

Oh My Goodness Sakes!!! $90 for a DOLL??? I think I may pass out. Thankfully, we haven't heard the name MIA in our house yet!
Hey Tar...Maybe that Mia will become a collector's item someday and I hope not a dust collector...
LOL. Well, now you know what to get TK for Christmas...more wardrobe for Mia...BTW, your daughter has gorgeous hair, hands & lap. ;-) Bo
I know, tranquility, it's killing me! Bo, you're a riot! You just always make me laugh!
American Girl dolls are so expensive, but the girls do seem to love them. Getting her doll she had longed for will be a wonderful memory for her. You do know there is an American Girl Hotel in NY, where your doll is treated as (and probably charged as) a hotel guest? Wonder what that costs? laurie
This is so funny. Our granddaughter in NC, has 3 of these dolls and enough clothes, that she saved her money up and then bought a little closet to keep all of the things in. And her list goes on and on. And she even went to Atlanta, where she had a birthday party at an American Girl store. I just don't get it. LOL
Hugs,
Chris
Oh yes! I can identify..had two girls and they both went through the phase where they "had" to have certain dolls... I recall one Christmas there was a doll , I believe she was called "baby alive" that ate, drank, tinkled and yes..pooped ! Had to have her... "santa" brought them each one.. the dolls proceeded to get "constipated" and were left to their misery in a pile with the other misfit toys in their closet!
But you know, they were so excited and happy to get her.. and that's what we do for our kids! We want to see their eyes glimmer and that smile on their faces. Yes, Tar, glad you granted the Mia and congrats on being a grandma! He he
Oh geeze! Wait until you get all the catalogs in teh mail for wonderful matching outfits you'll want to buy her & can't afford. ;o)
My granddaughter got a Bitty Baby American Girl doll last Christmas. I have been besieged w/ catalogs & the matching outfits are sooo expensive. But there's hope! On eBay there are sellers who sew & sell outfits at a fraction of the cost. Just do a search on American Girl clothes.
BTW you're spoiling her! (LOL Just telling you what everyone told me when I bought Caralyn one)
Congrats g-ma!! My girl was more into sports, and let me tell, well you know, you have a boy too - that can be just as expensive. She did have her girly moments, so I was double whammied. Wait 'til they start driving - ouch!! We did the whole tinted windows for the b-day and then those hub-cap things for Christmas one year - double ouch!!
I'm with Bo - your girl has very pretty hair, hands and lap - Bo, that was gooood!!
Lynette
Wait a minute - do you have a son?? I just went back and looked at your profile - I thought it said you had a boy? I just goofed up didn't I??
OK - you're too funny!! Love the "son"!!
You guys crack me up! Thanks for the laughs today!
Oh, yes, that baby WILL become a collectors item someday.....

Thank you so much for putting our bub over to the side. That is so sweet of you, I appreciate it. I'm weird about our son's face on my blog too. I have one on there but swear I'm going to take it off, I don't feel right about it!! :)

Hello....I came across your blog from my friend's (mommatobug)
I just had to say, my parents bought my daughter her first American Girl last Christmas and she truly adores it. She got the one that looks like her. Mia is very cute too.
I will say that, although they are extremely expensive, I think it's a good company and they're pretty well made. Recently we sent my daughter's doll to the "doll hospital" because her hair was no longer nice and pretty like when it came new. They sent her back with a brand new replacement head, a hospital gown, bracelet and balloon, and didn't charge me for it except for shipping.
