Valentine's Day Blog Party

Today, I join with Laurie at Bargain Hunting & Chatting with Laurie for her Valentine's Day party.  Thanks, Laurie, for hosting this fun party!  I didn't decorate alot this year because it hasn't been that long since I finished putting the Christmas decorations away.  SIGH...They didn't jump back in the boxes as easily as they came out, for some reason.  (And it's not because I did alot of after Christmas shopping!  REALLY!)

So, welcome to our home.  This is the back of the front door.
The foyer table...
up close...just realized I forgot my red rose wreath on this mirror that so many of you commented on last year.  Don't you hate when you do that and have to wait another year to use the decoration?
the living room...
can't wait to get this room painted...

a kissing ball...(the wall really isn't this green!)

(Melissa Miller, that picture was for you!  LOL!)

the great room mantel...
still wish we had a mantel without the tv hole.  They invented a cordless phone, why not a cordless tv/dvd player?
told you I have a dish problem...SIGH.

wish I had taken a better picture of this...the angel is sitting on a red leather heart shaped box.  SORRY.

the keeping room (does anyone know why it's called that?  We're not really keeping things in there that we're not keeping in the other rooms! lol!)...
(yes, I stay up late.  I like Letterman, but can't wait until Jay's back on at 11:35!  I was never a Conan fan, were you?)

So, of the few (don't laugh!) things I did buy in after Christmas clearance sales, I happened upon some heart ornaments, so I decided to have a "Love Tree" for Valentine's Day.  Let's take a look...

The same angel as used at Christmas.  The gold angels are from Bed, Bath & Beyond after Christmas clearance 2 or 3 years ago.

the goldish-red hearts (above and below) were purchased at Dillard's after Christmas 2009.  The L-O-V-E sign came from a local thrift store, but orignally came from Target because I bought one years ago, and it's pictured on the great room mantel photo.  Some of these angels were also on either of our Christmas trees.

the little red birds were from Dollar Tree after Christmas clearance 2009.
The same for the red hearts pictured below, except they came from Tuesday Morning
The white angel and the cloth "Happy Valentine's Day" heart were thrift store finds.

Some vintage reproduction cards on the pantry door.

And finally, I thought I'd show you a Valentine card I received from my parents growing up!

Isn't she sweet?

Thanks for stopping by!  I hope you all have a great Valentine's Day weekend!  Sounds like we're going to get a little more snow.   I'll be soooo glad to bid winter farewell!

Oh Penny, I LOVE your door and sidelights- gorgeous! I know I was supposed to be look at that pretty heart on the door knob, but I was so taken by the door. Your "Love" Tree is such a great idea, and you've got some great ornaments on it. Those angles with the trumpets (on top of a piece of furniture) are so pretty, and of course, I loved your vintage card display and that precious V'tine card your parents gave you (I have a birthday card from my childhood with a similar little girl on it). I am so with you about the "keeping" room thing. I have always wondered what that was all about. Thank you so much for joining the party! I know you must be soo busy, and I really appreciate you taking the time to do this. laurie

Now Penny, we have to talk ~ you didn't decorate A LOT? Methinks you DID!! I'm in a funk with my decorating lately. So I've had such a good time visiting your beautiful home. It is always inspiring to visit you and I just love your style of decorating. Did I spy a Lefton Angel/Devil on your entry table? I love those little guys!!

Happy Valentine's Day!

Big Hugs,

What a beautiful home you have, Penny! I ♥ ♥ ♥ all your ♥'s! LOL
I think you went all out for Valentines Day & I can't imagine what else you have yet to display. :D

BTW, a wireless TV is coming out in a year or two. I am waiting to buy one for my sunroom. I want it up high on the wall WITHOUT cords hanging down.

Oh & I found this about keeping rooms: "A keeping room is an area just off the kitchen of a home. Keeping rooms date back to Colonial times when families would sleep in that area when the rest of the house was cold. Since the area could be heated by the kitchen stove, it often provided the only heated place in the house. Today, a keeping room is called by many different names, depending on one's geographical location, such as a family room, a great room and a hearth room."

It was also sometimes called a "gathering room". We call ours the sunroom because of all the windows. :D

Thank you for your well wishes for our anniversary.
fondly,
Rett

Oh wow. Everyone is using your name on here and I thought it was secret! LOL

Ok, I feel like a horrible Mom. I don't have ONE Valentine's decoration. All I have up is a card that we got in the mail for Valentine's. lol Sheesh. I feel like such a slacker. I must improve and start decorating for Easter!!!

I love this, Penny! It looks so festive... and you have tons of decorations! Your love tree is so sweet, as are all of your cherubs. And I think my favorite decoration is the wreath with the vintage cards. How cute is that!

Here's wishing you a very Happy Valentine's Day!

XO,

Sheila :-)

Hi Penny,

This is the first time I've ever seen/heard of a Love Tree; you might have something going here. We could leave the tree up a bit longer.

I decorated MUCH LESS than you. Have a great day!

I love the vintage cards on the heart the best:) I have saved some cards from when my children were in grammar school but wish I had saved more. Thankfully they are selling the reproductions now and they are just the cutest little cards ever. Wasn't this the most fun party ever and we did not even have to get out of PJs to come along:) Happy Valentine's day.

I just love all your Valentine decor! {and you said you didn't decorate alot! LOL!} ...especially the Valentine Tree! It is beautiful! I just took David's Christmas tree out of his room last week!!! I kid you not! LOL! I should have done something like your tree, but I didn't have the pretty ornaments, so maybe next year! And you reminded me of my red feather wreath I could have used, when you mentioned yours! LOL! I should have viewed your post before I finished putting my decorations up! I could have gotten lots of great ideas from you! :)

The card from your parents when you were small is precious! What a treasure to have!

And yes, sounds like we will have snow in the morning when we awake! The kids are excited, except for being disappointed it isn't snowing on a school day! LOL!

Hope you and your family have a wonderful Valentines Day! :) ~hugs, Rhonda

Sorry I'm just getting around to see your pretty Valentine decorations - I've been very busy for the past couple of weeks!

Me, mom, one of mom's friends and Kristen (from work) are going to the Home & Garden show at the convention center this weekend - gotta start getting some yard ideas - low maintenance being a top priority!

I need to remember the names of those places you told me to go so we can check them out before to long - I wish I could say I'll take your bet, but I'd lose - the one about me not coming out of there empty handed!

Hope you and the girls are good - hey, email me the names of those places again, if you have a minute. Just send it to the email on my blog! No rush - thanks!

Have a good week!

Hello Penny~What a treat to see all your Valentines decor. The V-Day tree is amazing what a grand statement. I love all your little touches it really maked the theme stand out so beautifully. The kissing ball is such a charming idea that I've always wanted to try. Red roses are the quintessential flower of romance, which I love decorating with too.

We had a lovely Valentines...my son, daughter in-love and their friend came home (with 2 dogs) for the three day weekend. They participated in a 18 mile bike ride in Oregon on Valentines day. The Weather has been unusually sunny and pretty dry for the most part, which we've embraced with open arms.
The most interesting thing we saw on Valentines...was a house fully decorated and lit in Christmas lights down to the candy canes.
now that's a fierce dedication to Christmas.

come by for a visit your company would be nice.
Sweet wishes,
Sara

Hey Tar!!!
Thanks for coming by and your kind comment on my weight loss.
Since 9/09/09 and my big scare at the gyno over my high B/P we eat only healthy foods now. No refined sugar, extra salt or soft drinks of any kind. We eat lot's of lean protein, veggies and fruits. The only sugar I eat is whatever is in cereals for breakfast and a tiny piece of dark chocolate daily. I drink tons of water and hot tea daily. We exercise almost every day as well. We walk our entire neighborhood and use our Bowflex weight machine. I'm finally over my plateau and have lost another two pounds the past few days! That's now 43 in total! WOOHOO!!!! I'm so excited. I hope to lose about 50 in total. I'm trying to get back to my wedding day size which was a four. I'm 5'3".

It just takes a definite life style change not a *diet*. I'm not hungry at all so I can live with this way of healthy eating for life. Plus having my new low B/P is awesome.

Have a great day! ~Melissa :)

Hey Penny - I am soooo glad you are commenting even if you aren't posting!! I miss you -

I read the directions for the doorbell and just went for it - I got tired of waiting for stuff to get done around my other house, and knew I'd be the one doing it around here and just have to jump in - doorbells aren't that hard really.

I'm having fun getting everything spruced up just the way I like them! That old can and I go way back - I think Meghan gave me that several, several years ago!

Take care -
Oh and thanks for putting up the Easter Button - you rock girl!

Lynette said...

PS to you too - I have black plaid ribbon I bought to tie around the topiaries but with the wreath that will look terrible, but I didn't think about purple - I have some in my stash and think that might work!
I bought some ivy though to glue in the bare spots (and they are pretty noticable when you're up close) in the balls - I got those at the Pottery a couple of years ago and they are so bleached out - I was seriously thinking about painting them and then my common sense kicked in!! Ha - or whatever it is!
